Skaban - Handmade Pens & Craftsmanship
About Me
I am Ahmet Aslan, a woodturner and penmaker originally from Istanbul, now based in Germany. From a young age, I dreamed of becoming a carpenter, and over the years, this passion for woodworking evolved into pen making. This journey led me to establish Skaban, a brand dedicated to craftsmanship, creativity, and quality.
While I primarily work with wood, I am also open to using alternative materials, such as Micarta, acrylic, and stabilized wood, to push the boundaries of design. My approach is unconventional at times, as I strive for uniqueness in every creation. Each piece I craft is an extension of my artistic vision.
Inspiration
The Skaban logo pays homage to Katsushika Hokusai's "The Great Wave off Kanagawa", a masterpiece that embodies power, movement, and timeless beauty. This inspiration reflects my philosophy: blending tradition with contemporary aesthetics, ensuring that every piece is not just a writing instrument but an artistic statement.
My Work
Each pen I create tells a story. I carefully select materials to craft unique pieces that enhance the writing experience.
Signature Materials:
Natural & Stabilized Wood: Maple burl, Ziricote, Wenge, Walnut, Padouk, Zebrawood
Hybrid Materials: Micarta, Acrylic, Brass Accents
Special Editions: Bavaria-themed resin, Custom deep-blue rollerball, Kitten-themed pens
Techniques & Craftsmanship:
Traditional & Modern Woodturning
Segmented Wood Designs
Urushi Lacquer Finishing

Each pen is designed to be more than a writing tool—it's a collector's item, an artistic piece, and a companion in creative expression.
